TREKKING IN GULMARG
Gulmarg or "The Meadow of Flowers," is a charming hill station at 2,653 m, situated at a distance of 51 km from Srinagar, amidst tall pines, gigantic firs and the snow-molded mountains. Gulmarg makes an excellent base for trekking in the northern Pir Panjal Range. Nanga Parbat can be seen to the north from several view points, including Khilanmarg, west and over 1,500 feet up the forested hillside from Gulmarg.
Gulmarg-khilanmarg {One day trek}
1. Trekking in Gulmarg is not complete without going to khilanmarg vallaey situated 5.5kms from Gulmarg this trek will begin from Gulmarg and will take almost 2 hours to reach there and enjoy this one day trek. It gives you a beautiful view of Nun & Kun peaks in the south-west along with the mesmerizing view of Nanga Parbat.
Gulmarg-Alpathar lake {one day trek}
2. Trekking along Alpather Lake takes you to another world.it is situated at a distance of 13kms from Gulmarg[height 14,700ft] it takes almost 5 hours to reach there so you need to start trekking early in the morning otherwise you will have to do camping there for night.
Gulmarg-Drung {One day trek}
3.One more place where you can enjoy trekking is the path from Gulmarg Drung. Drung is situated at a distance of 3kms from Gulmarg and takes 1.5 hours to cover this distance.The day trekking allow its participants to enjoy the beauty of green forests, above tree line meadows and the spectacular view of sunshine peak and great Himalayan range.
