Khardung-la Pass
Khardung-la Pass world’s topmost motorable pass according to BRO (Border Road Organization), ‘Khardung La’ is located on the Ladakh range which is 40 km from Leh. It is positioned at an altitude of 18,379 ft. and is also known as the ‘Pass of Lower Castle’. The place offers amazing picturesque and attractive views of valleys.
Khardungla Pass is one such gateway, which leads to Nubra and Shyok valleys. While this might not be a typical tourist destination, it is definitely the starting point for many. Not too far from Leh, Khardungla Pass is the only roadway that leads to the heart of the Ladakhi countryside. Given the altitude, a lot of tourists often feel out of breath, the moment they start their ascent to places like Pangong Lake. Khardungla Pass is located in such a place that travellers can take a break here, enjoy a hot beverage and just savour a deep breath. This is also one of the ideal places to pack snacks and bottles of water for the rest of the journey. Khardungla Pass gives a brief insight into all that one can expect in Ladakh.
